대학원 소개
수학은 엄밀한 논리와 폭 넓은 사고를 필요로 하는 학문이다. 자연의 많은 현상들은 수학적으로 표현될 수 있으며 수학의 개념과 방법은 자연과학과 공학분야 뿐만 아니라 사회과학분야까지 널리 활용되고 있다.
본 수학과는 이러한 추세를 반영하여 수학전공과 응용수학전공을 두고 있다. 수학전공은 기하학, 대수학, 위상수학, 해석학 등을 다루며, 응용수학전공은 이들 순수수학 분야에서의 기본이론을 바탕으로 미분방정식이론, 수치해석이론, 최적화이론 등을 다룬다. 이러한 분야들의 효과적인 교육과 연구를 위하여 본 과에서는 도서실과 두 곳의 전산실습실을 운영하고 있다. 본 과의 도서실에는 7천여 권의 전공서적과 60여종의 전문학술지를 비치하고 있으며, 각 전산실습실에는 40여대의 최신 컴퓨터와 주변기기 및 다양한 소프트웨어를 갖추고 있다.
또한 현재까지 119명의 석사, 40명의 박사를 배출하였으며 이들은 대학교수, 중등학교교사, 다양한 분야의 기업체 등에서 각자의 기량을 충분히 발휘하고 있다.
Introduction
The department offers the degrees "Master of science" and "Doctor of science" in Pure Mathematics and/or Applied Mathematics. The Pure Mathematics Course has reference to intellectual training and acquisition of knowledge in Mathematics such as Differential geometry, Algebra, Analysis, Topology and Combinatorics. The Applied Mathematics Course, in addition, emphasizes on applications of Mathematics such as Differential equations, Numerical analysis, Optimization, Wavelets and Dynamical systems. The department runs its own Mathematics Library and Computer Lab. Up to 2009, more than a hundred Alumni are taking their roles in many areas such as Universities, Colleges, Secondary schools and Companies
